Second Thoughts

Jimmy Wong! AH. Why have I only stumbled upon him this year? It’s really super super ironic that I chanced upon him through an EpicMealTime vid, which I came to after watching a video about some famous YouTuber talking about who she would have sex with (the list included Spongebob and Patrick, WTF).

Jimmy’s stuff is nothing like that. It’s really clean-cut and generally positive. He does a lot of covers and original songs - I think I actually love his originals more than his covers because they’re so…original.

I blogged about his cover of Lee Hom’s 你比知道的事 in my last entry. Despite the atrocious pronounciation (for a Chinese person who claims he grew up speaking Mandarin that is) I really love the arrangements and his rendition. Have played it many times despite cringing at the terrible pronounciation which is very obvious at the start.

I really like Jimmy because:

- He can sing

- He can play multiple instruments, from the guitar to the piano to the ukelele various percussion instruments

He can write good songs that tend to be the style that I really enjoy

- He has really nice eyes, I don’t know what is it about them but they’re kinda dreamy >.<

- He has dimples (I just have this thing about guys with dimples…)

- He has a sense of humour

- He also apparently doesn’t feel self-conscious at all, because he walked through the streets of China strumming a guitar and singing and also recorded himself singing beneath the Eiffel Tower

Jimmy rocks! His hair is kinda weird at times but well, that ceases to matter the moment he opens his mouth.

Watching his videos lifts my spirits.

Oh I actually wanted to say that in some of his videos which feature love songs, he does stuff with the female leads like twirl around, chase each other, play with sparklers etc etc. I find it amusing that even amateur filmmakers (if I can call them that) reflect similar content from professional music videos (especially Taiwanese music videos?). I mean WHO DOES THAT IN REAL LIFE. I bet Jimmy has never done it. Even if people do try that, it probably gets boring after the first time - how many times can you spin around before you get dizzy?? and is nothing as romantic and fun and exciting as it looks onscreen. The weather’s also always perfect.

Just like how when a friend and I were watching Almost Famous and the male lead was saying to the girl that he would like her to be the female lead of his life, and she turned to me and said, “I wish a guy would say that to me in real life!” I replied, “What guy would say such things in real life??”

Haha. Donno if this is a sign of me being jaded. But I think I would probably laugh if any guy said such stuff to me. It’d probably work on paper though, like in a love letter? That would win me.
